Madison Kleigh and the Onyx Stone

Crossing their hearts and making pinky swears were not enough when Madison and her best friend promised each other not to reveal the power of the onyx stone. Instead, they wrote down terrible consequences that would happen if they broke their vows. Then they did something they should never have done. They sealed it with the blue energy from the stone- energy that brings objects to life. When their secret began to leak out, so did the power of the stone. As for the terrible consequences- Madison’s worse nightmares may be coming to life.

Awesome book – This book would make a great movie. My favorite so far. [Jeff’s] stories create visual pictures while reading. I Love his stories.

This is an incredible book. The author takes you on a journey from Mars to back home and leaves you with feelings of nostalgia about your childhood. An excellent middle-grade read!

Dear Mr. Montanye
I LOVED THE BOOK!!! It was so intriguing and interesting. I like how you didn’t just show it in Madison’s point of view but other characters. It was cool how the stone created life and Madison’s Dad used it to bring life to Mars. I noticed 1 spelling error on page 87 in chapter 12. I put a sticky note to show where. The book was phenomenal. I really, really liked it. Sorry that it took me so long to read through. I was reading a lot of other books. I also liked how paper Razor caused chaos in the restaurant and how you waited until the end for Madison’s Dad to come back. Thank you so much for letting me read the book. . .

Loved the book!

High school student’s thoughts after reading the first chapter:

  • I love how smart Madison seems, in a funny way.
  • Madison has a mind of her own and seems good at drawing and is very lovable.
  • I would continue this book. The possibility of an exciting plot is setting itself up and the book seems like it will have good action. The character development is interesting and Madison’s backstory seems like a solid one that could give a good story.
  • I would love to see what happens.  Who wouldn’t be hooked after this chapter?
  • If the rest of it is as good as the first chapter I look forward to reading this book!
  • I’m not very big into space but I want to read the second chapter.

Madison Kleigh is your ordinary almost-13-year-old girl–NOT! Her father is an astronaut on his way to Mars, and Madison is a charismatic adventurer in her own right. When a mysterious stone arrives on her birthday, she’s sure it’s her father’s gift from outer space. The gem then reveals its magical powers, and Madison uses it to fend off bullies and protect defenseless animals. But there are evil men who want this magical stone, and they’ll go to any lengths to get it.

This fast-paced YA adventure is jam-packed with excitement to stir the imagination of readers of all ages. But it’s not just fluffy entertainment: Madison Kleigh deals with some serious, real-life issues and exemplifies how to overcome them. Fully-fleshed out characters jump off the page, and a complex plot combines mystery, magic and emotional angst, taking the reader on an irresistible journey. Brilliantly written with strong themes, this book marks the beginning of the most promising YA series of the decade.

I received a complimentary copy of this book for an honest review.

An intriguing start to what could potentially be a great series.

This book is full of great ideas. A stone that brings things to life? A paper cat that the main character brings to life? It caught my interest. I think there’s a lot of great details in this book that makes it very likeable.

I also like how the stakes raise throughout the book all the way until the very monumental ending. I don’t want to spoil anything, but I thought it was very intense and unique. It’s one of those scenes that will stick with you long after you’ve finished the book.

That’s not to say the book isn’t without issues. I personally thought it started out a little bit slow, but it wasn’t so slow that I stopped reading. It shows great promise and I’m looking forward to book 2 in the series!

I really enjoyed reading this book! You get lost in it! I love the cat too! I wanna get a cat and name it Razor now! I highly recommend this book! You won’t be disappointed!

I occasionally decide to read books I don’t normally choose and I’m not too impressed but this book was a pleasant surprise. It had a nice flow and the characters were very relatable so I could imagine myself in their shoes.
One of my favorite parts of the book was the cafe scene where you see a more mischievous side to the paper cat. Definitely my favorite character!
Overall: I recommend this book to anyone who likes a lighthearted fantasy.

There is so much action, adventure, mystery, and one of the most well-thought-out storylines I have ever read! Jeffrey David Montanye’s imagination is one that so many authors dream of having (myself included), and I now long to read other books in the Madison Kleigh series. The bullying mentioned throughout was written quite realistically and triggered some unhappy memories. I could not help but feel sorry for Harold at one point, and the revelations about him made a lot of sense toward the end of the story. It is always wonderful to read such well-written books for younger audiences, although I believe that one can never be too old for such brilliance plucked from the minds of literary geniuses. Madison Kleigh and the Onyx Stone will now take pride of place on top of my bookshelf of excellence, and I highly recommend it to readers aged ten years and over so they can feel the magic for themselves. Whether in a school, hospital, or town center, libraries will benefit from higher readership simply by having Madison Kleigh’s adventures on their bookshelves.

Madison Kleigh and the Onyx Stone is a fascinating and thrilling novel full of action, adventure, and magic for children, teens, and adults. The characters are awesome, and the intrigue is compelling and exciting. I needed a book like this: highly enjoyable, moving, and authentic. I loved everything about it. It is perfectly crafted. Enough emotion, danger, mystery, hope, and tension keep you turning the pages, leaving you eager for more. It’s about friendship, family, bullying, and a unique stone. Madison carved a special place in my heart. Jeffrey David Montanye’s writing style is particularly appealing and admirable. This beautifully written book is a must-read, especially for adventure and suspense fans.

Madison Kleigh and the Onyx Stone by Jeffrey David Montanye is a fast-paced, action-packed story. It’s a great tale with plenty of adventure and excitement, and it’s fun, but there’s also a serious side to it. The story deals with life issues faced by teens and how to overcome them, and it does so in a sensitive way. The characters are wonderfully developed, real people who come to life as you read. The plot is unique, complex, and a combination of teenage anguish, coming-of-age pains, and magic, all rolled into a great mystery. I guarantee you won’t put this book down once you start reading it, and you’ll love the paper cat. If you like light-hearted adventure and fantasy stories, you’ll enjoy this, the first book in what looks to be a promising new series.
