Color Coded Story Arcs

Color Coded Story Arcs.
Writing Madison Kleigh – Lost in the Amazon.

This is a photo of color coded story arcs for the characters in my latest book, Madison Kleigh – Lost in the Amazon. The project has proven to be a huge challenge.

First of all, it takes place in an area of the world that I am not familiar with. Fortunately, the internet provides a lot of detailed information about the plants, animals, people, and places I am writing about, however, it means many hours of research; reading and watching You Tube videos.

Secondly, the topic is a difficult one for my younger audience, dealing with retro viruses and DNA. Not only must the story make sense, it has to be entertaining and not bore my readers with scientific details. The challenge is to boil all the boring details down to an engaging story. This takes a tremendous amount of time. As for the story, don’t worry, it will not be boring.

Third, and probably most difficult, is that the people Madison has to interact with don’t speak English. Wow! now that is extremely hard to do. Actually, that is impossible to do, so I had to make all the major characters speak English. Some of them not talk it very goodly, but them talk it none the less.

Imagine being lost in the Amazon jungle along with three Guarani girls between the ages of 6 and 14 but only one of whom speaks English and being hunted by Mboi Tui? Oh, you don’t know who Mboi Tui is? Look it up! Yea, a serpent with a head of a parrot. Not fun.

I am still hopeful to have it finished by Christmas. Here is the latest progress bar:
