Ghosts in the Mist

Madison Kleigh - Ghosts in the Mist by Jeffrey David MontanyeGhosts in the Mist

After Madison Kleigh’s father is lost at sea in a collision with an ancient pirate ship from the 1700’s, he comes back as a ghost to help Madison find her way off a desert island in the Caribbean before an angry bunch of dead pirates use her to obtain what they came for; buried treasure. As Madison trenches across the island looking for clues to solve a three-hundred-year-old mystery, she is forced to face her worse fears of losing her father forever and entanglement with the supernatural.

Yes, this is book three of the Madison Kleigh series which will be for sale on Amazon late 2021. So, why am I rushing things along when the second book isn’t finished yet? Good question. I have a few reasons:

First, I want to base this story on a video game that I used to play when I was a kid in the early 1980s. The game is one of the early text adventures with graphics written for the #Commodore64 called Death in the Caribbean written by Bob and Philip Hess and distributed by Micro Fun, a division of Micro Labs. I want my story to take place on the same island with the same pitfalls and challenges that were in the game. To do this, I need permission, however, I don’t know how to locate Philip and Bob Hess. Micro Labs went out of business in the mid 1980s and I have not been able to learn what has happened to the rights for their games. If nobody purchased the company, I believe the rights would have reverted to the original creators which would be Philip and Bob Hess. I’ve tried searching for them on the internet, however, these are fairly common names which makes it difficult. If anybody reading this knows how to locate these people or how to trace the rights to the game, please contact me. If I can’t get permission, I’ll have to be generic with the story and not use anything specific from the game. Don’t ask me why I feel the need to do this, I don’t know why. Maybe I just want to commemorate something I enjoyed as a teenager.

Another reason is that the book ties in with the other books and future books. I need to have an idea of what is going to take place in this book before I finish the current book. The story will hold on its own without the need to read the previous books before you read this one, however, I still want things to connect and make sense.

And then there’s the cover. I want to get photos of my niece, my model for all the covers, before she changes too much. Kids grow so fast.

Don’t forget to order a copy of book one, now available on Amazon.
